They make propane specific regulators but an acetylene regulator will work fine. For cutting need to use propane tips and propane rosebuds for heating. You can't weld with propane though, only braze. Verify that your propane tank has enough fuel in it. If the tank is low on fuel, the torch won’t be able to pull out enough fuel to produce a strong flame.
